Moshav Liberia Concludes Successful Beekeeping Training in Gbarnga

Under the stewardship of CEO Jacob Dennis, Moshav Liberia successfully ended a comprehensive daylong training session on beekeeping at the Gbarnga School of Theology’s main campus on December 28, 2024.

The daylong Apicture training attracted a diverse group of farmers and students from different Colleges and Universities eager to learn about the vital role bees play in Liberia’s ecosystem and sustainable agriculture.

According to Mr. Dennis, The training session was intended to educate attendees on the ecological benefits of bees, their global contributions to food production, and the significance of beehouses in promoting sustainable agricultural practices, especially in Rural areas like Bong County.

Held on the United Methodist University Gbarnga Campus, the daylong Apicture training brought together over 53 Participants who got engaged in interactive discussions and hands-on activities that showcased the importance of bees in pollination and biodiversity.

Moshav Liberia Chief Executive Officer Jacob Dennis opened the session with a keynote address stressing the critical role of beekeeping in enhancing food security and environmental sustainability.

“Bees are not just producers of honey; they are essential to our agricultural systems and the health of our planet,” Dennis stated.

“Empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills to manage bee hives, will promote the values and protect our natural resources.”

“Thanks to you all for coming for this training today, We intend to build an institute for beekeeping in Liberia, this will be a learning center for Liberian farmers and Students” the Moshav Liberia CEO added.

The training covered a wide range of topics, including the ecological impact of bees, the anatomy of a beehive, best practices for beekeeping, and the economic benefits of honey production.

Moshav Liberia’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship through initiatives like this training session is paving the way for a greener future in Liberia.

Additionally, Mr. Dennis noted that Moshav Liberia plans to offer follow-up workshops and support for participants as they embark on their beekeeping journeys by 2025.

For their part, some of the Aspiring beekeepers, who spoke to the Liberia Agricultural and Environmental Journalist Network (LAEJN); “This training has opened my eyes to the importance of bees in our ecosystem,” said one participant, a local farmer.

“I am going to start my beehive and contribute to the health of my environment.”

“For me, I came from Zowenta this morning to form part of this all-important knowledge exchange training, I am very happy to be here this afternoon, He added.

The event concluded with a practical demonstration of beehive management techniques, allowing participants to gain firsthand experience in handling bees and maintaining hives.

Many of the farmers were seen constructing hives in the evening hour, the construction of beehives is only considered as one of the difficult moments in Beekeeping.
