Tubmanburg, Bomi – A daylong citizen discussion held over the weekend at the Tubmanburg Administrative Building marked the formal unveiling of a multi-million dollar agricultural investment by Kweni INC, an American-based company.
The meeting brought together a broad cross-section of local stakeholders, including county leadership, women’s organizations, youth, elders, and traditional leaders, all invited to weigh in on the project as the company charts its activities in Liberia.
Dr. John Tra, head of Kweni INC, opened the session by explaining that the primary purpose of the gathering was to officially inform residents of Bomi about the investment strategy and to solicit feedback, concerns, and suggestions from the community.
“This is more than a business venture; it is a partnership with Bomi,” Dr. Tra said. “We are here to listen as we plan what we hope will become a cornerstone of agricultural innovation in the county.”
Under the plan, Bomi is envisioned as a key site for agricultural development, with a focus on rice and cassava production. Dr. Tra estimated the total investment to exceed $60 million and highlighted anticipated benefits, including significant job creation for local youths and a boost to the regional economy.
He emphasized that the project aims to increase local food output and stimulate broader economic activity, positioning Bomi as a hub of agricultural progress.
The group, he said comprises of the Kweni Business Group, which is a leading development company dedicated to fostering sustainable growth and economic empowerment across Africa.
Dr. Tra mentioned that they are specialize in executing complex, large-scale projects across a range of vital sectors, including energy, transportation, agriculture, mining, and housing, delivering impactful solutions that contribute to the continent’s progress.
Alfred Zinnah, County Development Officer welcomed the initiative on behalf of the local government. He praised Kweni INC for selecting Bomi and pledged the full support of the local administration.
Zinnah also committed to a close, collaborative working relationship with the company to ensure productive and transparent cooperation that benefits the county and its residents.
Residents who attended the event expressed optimism about the investment, viewing it as a much-needed catalyst for employment and economic growth.
Attendees urged Kweni INC to maintain transparency and accountability as the project progresses and to prioritize the welfare of local communities throughout development.
