Agro Links Enterprise Inc. and Partners Conclude Agriculture Trade Fair in Kakata, Margibi County

By George C Kollie, Rural Montserrado County

Agro Links Enterprise Inc., in partnership with various stakeholders, concluded a highly successful two-day agriculture trade fair in Kakata, which drew attention to the importance of agriculture as a cornerstone of Liberia’s economy.

The event brought together farmers, agricultural businesses, and other key players to showcase innovations, promote sustainable farming practices, and foster collaboration within the sector.

Held at the old Aminata Gas Station on Kakata’s main street, the fair attracted farmers from Compound, Gibi District, and other parts of Rural Montserrado County.

The goal of the trade fair was to strengthen cooperation among local agricultural communities and spark greater interest in the sector’s role in driving Liberia’s economic growth.

Exhibits at the event covered a broad spectrum, including vegetable crops, packaged food displays, and cutting-edge farming machinery and tools. Key discussions focused on pressing topics such as sustainable farming practices, the integration of renewable energy in agriculture, and expanding market access for local producers.

Abel Varney, CEO of Agro Links Enterprise Inc., expressed his satisfaction with the high turnout and active participation, noting that farmers and business partners were able to openly discuss challenges faced within the sector.

The trade fair not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also provided farmers with a valuable opportunity to network and explore new markets,” he said.

Varney also highlighted the need for continued government investment in the agriculture sector, suggesting that if the Ministry of Agriculture supported initiatives like this nationwide, it would help recognize the value of local farmers and provide counties with the opportunity to focus on their specific agricultural strengths.

Despite the positive outcomes, participants underscored the need for greater government involvement, particularly in providing essential machinery to ease production challenges.

Farmers and stakeholders collectively called for enhanced funding options, including grants or loans, improved infrastructure, and policies that prioritize agricultural development.

Madame Famah Mulbah from Gibi District shared that inadequate roads and a lack of reliable buyers were major obstacles hindering farmers’ productivity. She stressed that without the necessary government support, it would be difficult for farmers to reach their full potential.

Throughout the fair, various cooperatives showcased their agricultural products, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to improving the sector.

As the trade fair wrapped up on Saturday, Agro Links Enterprise Inc. and its partners reaffirmed their dedication to advocating for policies that empower farmers and fortify Liberia’s agricultural industry.

Agro Links Enterprise Inc. is involved in the processing and packaging of locally produced cassava products, offering a variety of food items. Their factory is located in the Cooper Farm Community in Todee Statutory District along the Kakata to Monrovia highway.
