Gbarnga, Bong County- ActionAid Liberia has officially commenced a two-day County-Level National People’s Summit on Climate Justice in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The summit, being held at the Gbarnga Youth Center, brings together a cross-section of stakeholders to discuss sustainable solutions for climate resilience and agroecology in Liberia.
Delivering the overview of the summit, Norwu Harris, ActionAid Liberia’s Program Coordinator for Climate Justice and Youth, outlined the purpose of the event and emphasized the importance of community-driven approaches in tackling the growing threats of climate change.
The summit is being held under the theme: “Scaling Agroecology, People-Driven Climate Finance, and Sustainable Solutions for Liberia.”
Discussions at the event are centered on critical climate-related issues including: Sustainable farming practices that preserve soil health, The use of compost and animal manure as alternatives to chemical fertilizers, The impacts of climate change on local agriculture, and Community-led approaches to climate financing.
The event has drawn participation from a wide range of groups including grade school students, university students, members of the Farmers Union of Liberia (Bong Chapter), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry Development Authority (FDA), and other agriculture and climate-focused organizations.
The summit is part of ActionAid Liberia’s broader commitment to its vision of a just, equitable, and sustainable world where every person enjoys dignity and freedom from poverty and oppression.
The organization’s mission is rooted in achieving social justice, gender equality, and the eradication of poverty by working alongside communities, social movements, and civil society.
The summit continues through Friday, August 8, 2025, with interactive sessions, group discussions, and community action planning aimed at building a resilient and climate-conscious Liberia.
