Tormue Town, Jorquelleh District #2, Youth Action Lead Liberia, with support from Friends of Liberia, has officially launched an Agroecological Farming Project in Tormue Town aimed at promoting food security, strengthening climate resilience, and improving sustainable livelihoods in local communities.

The initiative comes at a time when climate change continues to pose serious threats to global food systems and increase food insecurity, particularly among vulnerable populations and rural communities.

Through the adoption of agroecological farming practices, the project seeks to improve agricultural productivity while protecting natural resources and creating economic opportunities for local residents.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Youth Action Lead Liberia, Edwin Boakai, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to addressing climate change and advancing environmental sustainability across Liberia.

According to Boakai, Youth Action Lead Liberia remains focused on tackling key environmental challenges, including unregulated mining activities, environmental human rights concerns, and strengthening conservation and climate adaptation efforts.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with experienced agricultural professionals who provided technical guidance and practical support throughout the launch activities to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.

At the occasion, special recognition was extended to Lovetta Lorpu Dolo and Esther G. Yarkpawolo for their dedication to community development and their willingness to share modern agricultural knowledge and practical skills with residents of border and rural communities.

As part of the launch activities, participants received essential agricultural tools and equipment including shovels, hoes, wheelbarrows, cutlasses, watering cans, and other farm inputs to support field operations and encourage hands-on agricultural engagement.

Community members in the district welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism that the project will contribute to increased agricultural production, improved livelihoods, and stronger community resilience in the face of changing environmental conditions.

The launch marks an important milestone in advancing sustainable agriculture in Liberia and highlights the growing role of youth-led initiatives in building resilient communities and promoting environmental stewardship
