Siatta Gardiner Lewis, a passionate entrepreneur and the founder of Shalom Foods Production, is making significant strides in Liberia’s agribusiness sector. However, she acknowledges that despite the progress, there is still much to be done to fully realize the potential of her business and the industry at large.

In an exclusive interview with Liberia Agricultural Journalist Network, Madam Lewis shared insights into her venture, which focuses on producing nutritional and organic food products to promote healthy consumption.

Shalom Foods Production offers a diverse range of organic and natural products, including instant meal mixes, organic spices, and condiments, all made from locally grown ingredients. These products have gained popularity in supermarkets and local markets, further highlighting the shift in consumer preferences.

The demand for organic food products in Liberia is experiencing steady growth, driven by increased consumer awareness of health benefits and a preference for natural, locally sourced foods.  Madam Siatta Gardiner Lewis, CEO of Shalom Foods Production, has witnessed this trend firsthand as more customers seek nutritious and organic alternatives to processed foods.

“Our customer base is expanding rapidly, thanks to positive word-of-mouth and the growing recognition of the benefits of organic products,” she shared.

Despite the rising demand, local agribusinesses face challenges, including limited access to financing, infrastructure constraints, and competition from imported goods. However, entrepreneurs like Madam Lewis remain optimistic, focusing on expansion, improved production techniques, and potential export opportunities to meet growing market needs.

Looking ahead, Madam Lewis envisions expanding her production capabilities and investing in modern farming techniques, particularly in Bomi County. She believes that scaling up operations will not only enable her to increase production but also create opportunities for exporting Liberian-made organic foods to regional markets.

Madam Lewis remains committed to her mission of transforming the agribusiness sector in Liberia. Her vision is to strengthen local food production, promote healthier eating habits, and contribute to economic growth through sustainable agriculture.

The growth of Liberia’s agribusiness sector depends heavily on empowering local farmers, ensuring they have the necessary resources, training, and market access to thrive.  The CEO of Shalom Foods Production recognizes the importance of supporting smallholder farmers to strengthen the country’s food production capacity and economic resilience.

Shalom Foods Production actively collaborates with local farmers across Liberia, sourcing fresh, high-quality ingredients such as cassava, rice, eddoes, sweet potatoes, and plantains. By purchasing directly from these farmers, the company provides a stable market for their produce, ensuring the farmers receive fair compensation and help reduce post-harvest losses by creating demand for perishable crops.

To build a stronger, self-sufficient agricultural sector, investments in local farming initiatives are essential.  Madam Lewis believes that with better policies, financial support, and technological advancements, Liberia can increase local food production, reduce dependency on imports, and create more job opportunities for rural farmers.
