As part of boosting agricultural education in Liberia, the Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Agriculture, has donated a brand-new power tiller to the administration of the Bong County Technical College (BCTC).

The donation according to the Ministry aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the college’s Agriculture Department, the only government-run Technical College agriculture program in Bong County.

At the official handover ceremony to the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Alfredson W. Tarkerweyah, President of BCTC, expressed gratitude to the Government of Liberia for its timely support.

He underscored that the donation was made in response to a formal request from the college’s administration, seeking to address key challenges faced by the Agriculture Department.

This power tiller will improve the practical training of our agriculture students and support the development of our 100 acres of farmland dedicated to agricultural projects,” Dr. Tarkerweyah said.

BCTC, a premier institution dedicated to academic excellence and professional development, is the only government tertiary institution in Central Liberia offering a regular four-year Bachelor of Science degree in several disciplines. These include Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agriculture Technology, Nursing, Information Technology, and Education.

Dr. Tarkerweyah affirmed that the college remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality education.  He noted that with continued support from the national government, BCTC is well-positioned to overcome its challenges and expand its impact across Liberia.

“We want to assure the people of Bong County that this power tiller will be used strictly for its intended purpose and at the same time promote agricultural education and productivity,” Dr. Tarkerweyah stressed.

The addition of the power tiller is expected to facilitate hands-on learning experiences for students and contribute to the college’s agricultural development goals.
