The Gboata Kwapigeh Agriculture Association is appealing to the Government of Liberia and local authorities in Bong County for assistance in obtaining essential stationery and working tools to enhance their agricultural initiatives.
Gboata Kwapigeh Agriculture Association, a newly established group, is making strides in promoting sustainable farming practices and educating its members about the prominence of agriculture.
The call for support was made during an interview with Agricultural Reporter Gboata in Jorquelleh District #3 Bong County on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, during which the association’s leaders outlined the challenges they face in their farming endeavors.
According to the group’s Chairlady old- ma Garmai Wright and its Coordinator Justin Gbanyan, the association’s commitment to developing lowlands farming can significantly improve food security and livelihoods in Jorquelleh District #3 and Liberia by extension.
“We are dedicated to cultivating our land and contributing to the agricultural landscape of Bong County, but we are in dire need of resources to make our efforts more effective,” the duo stated.
They added that the Gboata Kwapigeh Agriculture Association has been actively engaged in lowlands farming since September of this year, which according to them involves the cultivation of crops Rice Liberia’s stable food, including other eatable vegetables.
However, the association has faced numerous challenges, including a lack of proper tools and materials necessary for efficient farming.
“We are calling on the government, NGOs, and other Agricultural stakeholders to support us with the tools we need, such as hoes, shovels, and other farming implements, as well as stationery for record-keeping and planning,” the Liberian farmers added.
They believe that the provision of these valuable resources, will increase food productivity and contribute more meaningfully to the district and its people. It seems that without the necessary support, their efforts may be hindered.
In a chat with Liberia Agricultural Journalists Network, the local farmers expressed hope that their plea would resonate with those in positions especially members of the Bong County legislative caucus and the Agriculture Ministry to help, as they believe that investing in agriculture is vital for the development of Bong County and Liberia as a whole.
2024 is gradually coming to an end as such, the farmers remain hopeful that their appeal will lead to tangible support, enabling them to enhance their agricultural practices and improve their livelihoods.
