Gbarnga Liberia -The European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD), has commenced a vital Five-day training with a special focus on vegetable seed production, attracting over 150 farmers from across Bong County.

The training, which will run from December 9 to December 13, is being held at the Gbarnga Women’s Center and aims to equip local farmers with essential skills for sustainable agricultural practices.

According to the organizers, the training will focus on Agroecology practices and aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices among local producers in Bong County.

Established in 1988, IECD has expanded its reach to 18 countries, promoting agricultural education and community development.

Since 2010, the organization’s mission has been officially recognized as being in the public interest, underscoring its commitment to enhancing food security and improving livelihoods through education.

The event is also raising awareness about sustainable agricultural challenges and solutions including the sharing of inspiring testimonials from farmers participating in the training.

The training program is designed to provide farmers with comprehensive knowledge on how to produce seeds for the upcoming farming seasons, highlighting the importance of high-quality vegetable seeds in rural farming.

Meanwhile, the farmers will now learn best practices in agroecological market gardening, which integrates sustainable farming techniques with market-oriented production.

“Producing quality seeds is crucial for the success of farming areas in rural Liberia,” said one of the participants, Jerry Kerkulah a local farmer from lower Bong County.

“This training will help us improve our yields and ensure that we can maintain our vegetable seeds for the next farming season” the district#5 vegetable farmers noted.

The training sessions will cover various topics, including seed selection, planting techniques, pest management, and post-harvest handling.

ÍECD’s trained Technician is leading the five-day workshops, our observation has gathered hands-on demonstrations and practical advice tailored to the local farmers.

Just by empowering these local farmers with the knowledge and skills to produce their own seeds, the Organization aims to foster resilience and self-sufficiency within the agricultural sector of Liberia.
