About Us

The Liberia Agricultural and Environmental Journalists Network (LAEJN) is a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering informed media coverage and public engagement with critical issues at the intersection of agriculture and the environment in Liberia. With the pressing need for sustainable development practices and environmental conservation efforts, LAEJN emerges as a crucial platform to empower journalists and communicators to effectively communicate these issues to diverse audiences. LAJN was established on June 15, 2015.
LAEJN in July 2018, attained international accreditation from the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) as a full member during its congress in the Netherlands. The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) is the leading global body of agricultural journalists and communicators and has membership in over 50 countries.

MISSION
To promote informed journalism and public engagement on agricultural and environmental issues in Liberia, fostering sustainable development, environmental conservation, and resilience through capacity building, knowledge exchange, advocacy, and collaboration.

VISION
A Liberia where journalism serves as a powerful catalyst for sustainable agricultural practices, environmental stewardship, and climate resilience, driving positive change, fostering informed decision-making, and empowering communities for a prosperous and resilient future.

WHAT WE DO
Capacity Building: LAEJN seeks to enhance the capacity of journalists and communicators in Liberia to report accurately, ethically, and comprehensively on agricultural and environmental issues through training workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs.
Knowledge Exchange: LAEJN aims to facilitate knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities among journalists, policymakers, researchers, farmers, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration, innovation, and best practices in sustainable development.
Advocacy and Awareness: LAEJN endeavors to raise public awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and climate resilience in Liberia through targeted media campaigns, publications, and community engagement initiatives.
Policy Influence: LAEJN will advocate for evidence-based policies and interventions that support sustainable agricultural practices, environmental protection, and climate adaptation strategies, contributing to positive policy change at local, national, and regional levels.
Annual Agricultural Journalism Award: The Annual Agricultural Journalism Award aims to elevate the profile of agricultural journalism in Liberia, inspire excellence and innovation in reporting, and foster greater public engagement and understanding of agricultural issues. The award also seeks to incentivize journalists and media organizations to prioritize and invest in agricultural reporting, contributing to informed decision-making, sustainable development, and food security in Liberia.
